Falling

We went North to a cottage for two weeks. This of course meant carting along all kinds of specialized equipment to make life easier for Pat and myself.
Amongst the goodies we took an office type arm chair on rollers and of course the ever faithfull uplift seat. Now we have two uplifts one of which is fairly old and the pneumatics on it are getting a little tired so we set it at 190 lbs. Pat is 5ft 11 inches and weighs about 165 lbs. The new seat is set at that weight.
It was the new sear that we took with us. When we arrived my son in law put the office chair together and asked me what weight to set the uplift at. I mistakenly told him 190 lbs.
A couple of hours later Pat was sitting in the chair at the kitchen table with the uplift mounted. She leaned forward to move a salt shaker and with the transfer of weight the uplift started to raise her up. The problem however was that the rollers simply moved the chair away from the table and down Pat went on the floor.
She was not hurt fortunately and because my son in law was there we were able to lift her up and get her back on the seat after wer readjusted the weight.
Now this does not mean the uplift is dangerous. The only thing dangerous is my stupidity for not setting it properly in the first place and of course one does not usually use it with a chair on casters.

hi..it's so frustrating when something that helps us betrays us...and then we kick ourselves in the butt when we realize it was our error...

when i was still using the uplift seat and was visiting my mom, it was getting too warm in the house so i leaned over to open casement window near me....wrong!!!!!...out of the chair i shot, onto the floor..my poor mother, 89 and herself with limited ability due to severe osteoporosis, looked on in horror as i collapsed onto the floor...fortunately i was not seriously hurt..but couldn't get husband so had to track down son and his wife to get me up..i hate that....

i now have a power chair, and we got an adapted van..i am enjoying the mobility the chair gives me and with the van that i ride right up into, i'm more comfortable getting out and it's easier on ken..i don't use the uplift seat anymore, as there is no place i can get up from on my own...bummer...my powerchair does have an uplift feature that takes me almost to standing... that makes it much easier for ken to get me to a standing position...

well, thank goodness everything turned out ok...hope the rest of your visit was enjoyable for all..regards...Ann
