Diana, Speaking of short summers and home grown tomatoes reminded me of my Dad. I lost him in 1961 when I was 21. He grew up in the upper part of Michigan. Their summers were so short that very few of the tomatoes ripened. He said they would pick the green ones before the frost hit and wrap them in newspapers. Then they put them on the enclosed front porch. They would unwrap a few at a time and put them in the window where they could get the sunlight. The tomatores would ripen. I was raised in southern Illinois and we had tomatoes until October. They would get smaller and fewer as the days got shorter. I love fresh garden stuff; but now Carol and I don't mess with a garden. We go to a farmer's market to get fresh veggies when we need them. I certainly can't use a tiller now. lol I hope you get the van so Jim can get out and see the sights. I hate being cooped up inside. For the first time Carol and I share the driving. Usually I drive to something and she has to drive back. But it works out. Again, hope you find a suitable van. Of course you could just strap Jim to the top of the car. He would get a good breeze that way. Ha. Phil/PM |
