swallowing

I have never experienced trouble swallowing related to DM. Lately though I often feel as if my food does not go all the way down as it should and now I think that my esophagus sometimes even goes into a spasm (which is very scary and painful). My local GP is not very well informed re: DM and I don't see my Rheummy (who is far, far away) until next week. I would appreciate any info from those who really know.
