I just had an endoscopy done, tube down throat, because I was having problems after I ate. I was nauseus (sp) and sometimes I would vomit. I asked the GI dr if he was familiar with myositis and he knew all about it and how it affects the esophagus. My esophagus is not smooth at the top, it is like a corkscrew, doesn't help, and I also have a hiatal hernia. Have had it for 40+ years. He put me on Protonix because I have Reactive Gastrophy, a reflux disease partly caused by the meds and the DM, but I don't have any pain. It seems to be working. You need to watch your diet and when you have any pain, go to a bland diet. I have been messing with the hernia for so long it's second nature. Now I have a few more diet restrictions because of the reflux problem. One good outcome is I have lost 18 lbs of the pred. weight.
