where did it go?
|
Hi Everyone....Haven't posted in a while, but check in every day to read. My husband and two children have taken turns getting a cold/flu over the past month. Hubby took a sick day from work at the beginning of Feb., son stayed home one day week before last, and daughter was home from school for 2 days a couple of weeks ago, when she was ill. Last week was spring break for the kids and we had friends in from out of town for a few days. Wouldn't you know it, the morning that they are due to arrive, I wake up sick as can be!! Of course, I didn't get the luxury of "taking a sick day" and staying home in bed. I had to put on a smile and entertain company for three days. Well, two boxes of tissues later...guests are gone, kids are back in school, and I still don't have time to stay home to rest. Hey, is it just me, or are we missing something from the box underneath the posts? Where it says...Author Profile/Edit/Post Reply, etc., there used to be a "View All" between "Recommend" and "Refresh". Now when I read a post, instead of selecting "View All" and scrolling down to read all of the replys, I have to hit my "Back" to click on each reply separately. Where did it go? Is it just my computer? Blessings and good health...Janet

Hi, Janet, welcome home! You missed the whole month of February when the webmaster was having so much trouble with our former host server. It took a month to get the kinks worked out after moving to a virtual host server with satellite over Utah. This program is like the original, except more goodies. To search for previous messages, at the top of the page, click "Previous Messages" then when you've finished that page, click "Previous Messages" and it will take you another page backward. We can now email each other directly (if the email address was given when the person registered) by clicking the Poster's name, which takes you to their profile, then click Poster's name again. This automatically addresses and email for you so all you have to do is type in your message (not seen on the bulletin board) and send. Shortly, Kelly (webmaster) will have this program updated so we can have 10 bulletin boards from this one site. We can have a BB for IBM, DM, PM, JDM, Caregivers, General Discussion, etc. I know of no other website that offers 10 BB from one site. I'm fighting to keep the flu away after being soaking wet three times last week when I had to see my doctor in Dallas, and three other appointments. I turned my car temperature to 82 to stop the shakes I had. Last night I slept just over 14 hours I felt so bad. Our next meeting will be May 5th (lst Saturday) at the Steak & Ale Restaurant. I hope you can make it. Glad you are back among us. We've missed you.

Hi Jim, I've been around, just haven't posted much. You must have missed me when I re-registered back on the 9th of March. See message 184, regarding info about Enbrel. I addressed the last paragraph of that post to you. You didn't respond, so you must have missed it. Anyway, I hope to be able to attend the May 5th meeting at the Steak & Ale. If I do make it, I might bring along the wife of the PM person from Waco, who called me about info regarding Enbrel. I suggested that she call you. Her name is Erline. Have you heard from her? Please take care of yourself. The flu is nothing to mess with. I drove my daughter into town this afternoon, and got dizzy and thought I was going to pass out when I stopped at a red light and blew my nose. I think it was the pressure in my ears. I'm so congested. I'm going to take some Nyquil in a little while. Hopefully, I'll be able to sleep tonight. Blessings and healthy wishes...Janet

Re: where did it go? :-)
Jim, lets not overdo it.. you get plenty of rest and keep that flu away... I will be praying that you can do just that.. hang in there and drink lots of liquid, sleep and if need be, call your doctor if anything unusual occurs. We need you around, so please take care of your self or you just might have the entire board out by your doorstep offering assistance to keep you well.. all the best karen

Re: where did it go?
Hi Janet,
We've had the flu or a cold since the 1st of February and I have not had the flu in about 12 years.I took bronchitis afterwards and still have not regained my strength.
This must be a bad flu season this year.I hope your company went home well.I run when someone says there ill but with kids there's not much you can do about it.My granddaughter brought our flu home from school. Maybe Kelly or Jim can help with the board question.
Hugs,
Jan

Hi Jan, This is my first cold/flu since I was diagnosed with DM in 1997. I was told to expect increased infections and illnesses with the immunosuppresent drugs, but I have been very fortunate in that respect. The only thing that I'm taking now is 5 mg. of prednisone. I've been doing so well lately, but I'm a bit worried with this cold. When we are ill our immune system starts producing antibodies to attack whatever is going on within our bodies. With auto-immune diseases, there is always the possibility that our messed up immune systems won't know when to stop, and will start making those messed up antibodies that attack our own muscles. My rheumatologist has a patient with DM that ends up in a wheelchair every time he gets the flu. I think that you're correct about this being a bad year for the flu. My husband and daughter have both had it twice already this year...and it's only March! My guests knew that we had all been suffering with illnesses, but weren't concerned enough to cancel thier visit. Hopefully, they didn't take our "bug" home with them. We were stationed together in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and Fort Knox, Kentucky. Now they live about 3 hours away from us here in Texas, so we get the kids together a couple of times a year. I know what you mean about running in the other direction when someone is ill. I've even given up mentoring at the elementary school, because I'm so paranoid about germs. I'm still delivering meals to the elderly. It would be hard to give that up. I so enjoy visiting with them. I guess we can't hide from all germs, but I have antibacterial hand gel in my car for those times when a sink isn't available. Thank you for responding to my other post about enbrel. I know that it can't be easy for you to type with your wrist bothering you, but we all appreciate and enjoy you on the BB. Blessings....Janet

Hi Janet, I've had PM for 15 years and have not had a problem picking up the flu or colds but this year made up for it.I do not have small children but my 12 year old granddaughter brings things home from school. This was the 1st flu I've taken in years. My granddaughter was so worried and sweet. She said"Your not going to die are you Granny."My sweetheart!! I also worry about our immune systems knowing when to shut down.I've been trying to get in to see my rheumy but he only comes to town once a month.I may need to increase my meds. I discourage company except for lunch and an afternoon visit.I finally learned to say no to long visits. Thanks for taking the time to respond and being concerned.
Hugs,
Jan

Jan - Susan B. Anthony - the women's vote advocate or the originator of the Girl Scouts (forget which) - didn't want to waste time on visitors. In her parlor, she placed the most uncomfortable, hard seating she could find. She said any visitor who stayed longer than 20 minutes was a bore. The longer I live with IBM, those are my sentiments except for true friends.
