Still sleepy

Posted by Terri Nettleton ® , 2001/03/28, 00:24:17   Archive
We do know that the Rx's are part of the problem, thats one reason Terri doesn't take neorotin anymore. Things got better after that but it seems to be happening again. Terri also seems to get pneumonia a lot, about 5 times in the last 12 months. We have been out to mayo clinic afew times. Twice for her back (2 herniated discs and degenerative disc disease ) and twice for the DM. We see Dr. Yeteberg does anyone else see him? We are going to talk to the pain clinic about the sleeping but before they told her to take ritalin to help stay awake, and thats just another pill to take. Thanks for listening. Tony

Hi Tony-

I was given ritalin but found my heart wanting to race, it made me jittery, and I found myself gritting my teeth all the time,so you have to be careful with the dosage.I think it's better to lower the dosage of the med making you sleepy instead of adding a med to off set the other med. But, of course, discuss it with her doctor.

I've been having bronchitis.I was told to strengthen my lungs by breathing deep, holding it,and then releasing it.I do this off and on during the day.

I would not eat, if I was that sleepy.Getting food or liquids into your lungs could cause pneumonia.

I had a fractured disc but I take Fosamax for my bones now and get a bone density test to keep a check on bone strength. They have them now where you can just stick your hand or foot in a machine for the test. You feel nothing.

It's awful to feel like your sleeping your life away and she needs to be moving about more.

Hugs to both of you,
Jan/PM

Hi Tony,
Does Terri sleep with her head elevated? My Dr recomended I do that to reduce the risk of aspiration pneumonia. Ask her Dr about this; it might help her.
Best wishes,
Dorris
