There is hope for DMers. :-)
|
Hi everyone: I've been meaning to post for quite a while, but just didn't know how to go about it, but I guess there is living proof that DM can be cured by just burning itself out. As many of you know my medical history was long and hard on getting a firm diagnosis, being misdiagnosed with many different connective tissue diseases for a period of 17 years. Then in the spring of 1990 I was finally diagnosed with DM, was on prednisone and plaquenil therapy for 6 years with the prednisone being stopped in March of 1997 and I finally got off of the plaquenil this past March. At this point I am told that I no longer have DM, all the lab. tests are coming back normal, including the sedimentation rate, which was always high right from the beginning and since my stroke two years ago this coming April 27, the DM is gone. So whether I'm in remission, or cured, only time will tell. But I thought I had to share this with you all. No, I'm not healthy by any sense of the word, but having the DM gone, is helping me to regain some of the strength that I have lost these past 25 years. So, I'm praying and hoping that all of you with the myositis diseases get lucky like myself, and can get rid of the dangerous drugs like the prednisone, methrotrexate, etc. Right now I am basically being treated for a very bad back, need major, major back surgery, but not a good candidate because of having a pulmonary embolish a number of years ago and have the stroke just two years ago. However, I've gained so much knowledge from both this BB and the MAA BB, and have made some really nice friendships, that I hope even though the drs. feel at this time that I no longer have DM, I would really appeciate still being a part of this group and I hope you would like to have me continue being part of this group. Just know that you all are and always will be in my prayers. Sincerely,
Helen.
