Welcome, Scott: We are pleased to have you in our website with a wonderful group of people. We feel more like we are with old friends once you begin reading the messages and posting your own. I notice that you are Caretaker for your wife who has IBM. Please feel free to click onto those boards - IBM and Caregivers. If you have questions, the answer may already be posted. Ask whatever you need to know, feeling that you are among friends. We have several men who post in the Caregivers board - offering advice, accepting advice. You may email anyone poster's name directly if you have questions you would rather speak in private about. On the IBM board you will find also a wonderful group of people whom you will enjoy meeting to discuss IBM. So, welcome, Scott, from me and the entire group.

new powerchair :-)
|
hi...i got my jazzy 1120 2000 on friday...it is all black...i've taken it out in the adapted van a few times..i was a little nervous, but i did fine...even went with hubby into the supermarket...haven't been there in years...it was still freezing in the meat and frozen food section..brrrrrrr... anyway, i'm really pleased..hubby is making some refining adjustments on footrest etc..i got the lift feature..it almost stands me up so it's easy for ken to lift me to standing..unfortunately, i still can't do it on my own..will keep experimenting.. because i got lift feature, the arms do not go under the table...in fact, i ordered the shorter desk arms but they're not going to work for me, so ken made extentions for them 'till i can order longer ones..clever fellow...he's a sweetie...the arms do raise up and back, but then i lose support they would give me, plus i can't raise them myself...or get them back down.. this is a very nice machine and i am so sorry i didn't get this and the van sooner..it would have made things so much easier..that goes for the electric bed too..oh well, hindsight is always perfect...so on my soapbox to you all...do it early, not late if you can... anyway, hope all had pleasant holidays..we went to middle son's new home for easter...i didn't bring my new chair as i felt with little kids etc. ..i wasn't quite experienced enough, but next time it's going..no more stuck in one spot for me...regards to all.....Ann

Ann- We are glad for you and the scooter. You think we should have a "Myositis Race for the Goal" with everyone using a power scooter as our mobility? Jim

Re: new powerchair
Hi Ann...I got adjustiable arms (height)for my
Jazzy but I don't know if they'll work with the
"2000" but you might check. Wish I could "lock"
my chair when the grandsons are around...as they
(one)has reached his two's, are making things pretty
exciting (when I'm unaware the power has been
turned on, speed set to max and a small hand grabs
the joystick). For kicks, I put a "Harley" decal
on the back of my chair, gets a few comments
especially when I mention a top speed of 87.6 mph!

hi...i can imagine that would be a real adventure..zipping around when you least expect it...yikes!!!! is your lift feature in the main controller, or do you have a separate control for it...also, will your chair move at all if the lift is up.... do the adjustable arms attach to chair the same way as regular arms, at the back or do they attach at the sides of the seat....i'll be calling dealer in a day or two to talk arms..just want to use the chair a bit more to make sure everything else seems ok... regards...Ann

Re: Re: Re: new powerchair
Hi Ann: I'm so happy for you that you were able to purchase a jazzy. Just a couple of weeks ago I got a new Regal cub scooter manufactured by Bruno of Oconomowoc, WI and at that time had the lift installed in our new van. I love my scooter truly, but am having problems with getting the scooter lift to move quicker than I can stand before I get seering pain in my low back. This was supposed to give me more freedom so I could go to the stores when I please. I guess I have to have a little more patience and my back has to start cooperating by not giving such bad spasms while I am trying to get the scooter into the van. I was really depressed by it, that my husband wanted to go out and buy me a different car where I could use the outsider lift or a mini van which I could ramp and just move the scooter up the ramp and then get in the car/truck. So at this point I am still pretty much at the mercy of my family and friends. I hope one day to be able to alleviate these problems. Take care Ann and enjoy the freedom you lost and have now regained.
Sincerely,
Helen DM

Re: Re: Re: new powerchair
Hi Ann: The adjustable arms just slide into the
same place (on the back of the chair) as those
that it came with...the arms have to be attached
to the new supports. Pride isn't the best company
to deal with in that it took about two months to
get the new adj/arm supports. I relocated my
"elevator" control to the seat cushion frame, near
the back of the seat...it's out of the way but
easy to reach. My chair does move at "walking
speed" (wife's) with the seat elevated. I understand
the "2000" doesn't offer this option because of
safety concerns (new high-speed machine). In answer to Jan's question...I had to get a
faster dog!

Brad- Oh dear,my dog's are to short, fat, and old to get out of the way. That's one reason I haven't got the lift bed,I was afraid of squishing them underneath.I have 3 rather old Chihuahua's.They stay right with me because I drop lots of food. Are your hand controls easy to get to and push? It sounds like they might be to easy!! Jan

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: new powerchair
Jan, the description of your dog could also
very easly be applied to me! Actually my little
"buddy" (Bischon)Charlie, never has to worry
about getting out of the way...he's always
riding on my lap! Controls are VERY easy to
operate.

Re: Re: Re: new powerchair

Ann- Do you have a lot of control with it? I wouldn't want to run over the dog.Does it feel stable going in and out of the doorway? Jan

Re: Re: Re: Re: new powerchair
Jan and everyone, i think its time to invest in power chair. I think and correct me if i am wrong, Ann was the one to inform everyone to be prepared prior to needing anything.. I only have a manual chair. But i guess its time to start shopping.. The doctor will allow one for me i know he will.. So i think i will be doing that soon.. all the best Karen

Re: Re: Re: Re: new powerchair
hi..there are adjustments that can be made by the dealer with a programer, if you don't like standard setting which is what i have right now..also, there's a range of speed that you can select..so, at the very slowest, i don't think there would be a problem..also, when you push joystick to move there is a click as the brake disengages..that would probably quickly signal to dogs that the monster's on the move!!!!! Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: new powerchair
Hi Ann: I too have a dog, a 3 year old black and white cocker spaniel named precious oreo cookie, but we mainly call her cookie. Cookie learned from puppy on not to get in the way of my draftsman's chair which I use like a walker and to also stay out of the way of the scooter when we went for walks. When she was a puppy she would just crawl on to the floor of my scooter and ride the rest of the way home, but with my outside scooter which is really meant for a much smaller person there isn't any room for her to climb on, so she must walk all the way, but she's a good little walker and it's fun having her out with me. I'd be lost without her because usually I'm alone pretty much. The new scooter would probably have enough room for crawling on when she tires, but we haven't used that one for walks yet. The new scooter is built for me and with whatever I needed to be comfortable and the main thing was to get the orthopedic seat because of my severe back problems. Sorry this got kind of long again.
Hope you have a great day.
Helen. DM
