Blurry Eyesight :-(

Hi everyone! I hope it's been a good day for you all. I have DM, and lately (the past week or so) I have had blurry vision. Started noticing when I was driving one day. I had my eye exam in December 2000 and got a new pair of glasses. All looked fine then. I am not on any treatment yet as far as for my DM. However, my thyroid is a bit enlarged. Still waiting for test results. I wonder if anyone here ever had blurry vision before your treatment was started? Thanks in advance,

Yes i even lost my vision in my right eye, in 1986. When all eye tests were done, is was the result of inflamation, but both eyes were blurry. Needless to say after about a year and a half of this and that, i was dx ed with PM. They in a eyespecialists report at the time, said ruled out diabetes, and was further suggested to look into autominnunes disorders... That was the very first symptom other than minor aches and pains back then.. remembering i knew i had something, but it was finally confirmed in 1988. and the worst being of late, the last 2 years in a row. Although, i knew once they took the stools away at the counter at work, at the postal window, I would have trouble, so i think its been 3 to 4 years in this bad situation.. This flare has never lightened up since, with the exception of 7 weeks. (my vision came back on its own in six weeks.) all the best Karen

Hi Mel, I did not notice vision problems until after I started the medicines.I would start to write a check and suddenly couldn't see it.That proved to be exciting in the grocery checkout line.I wrote the check almost blind,hoping I put in the right amount of zeros.I also experienced black dots dancing in my vision but it went away and I assume it was caused by the meds. You should report it to your doctor just to be on the safe side. Hugs,

Jan, the temporary loss of vision is what started my journey to PM.. I had thought my diabetes had done something to my eyes, but it was inflamation.. it was a long journey that year and half but i kept having different symptoms until my ana was high and so was my cpk-was about 900 after a union convention in chicago. I had slept a whole week after returning, and then we started all the tests. I remembering getting a phone call from the rhemy on May 23 1988, you have polymyositis, i was at work.. He told me to pick up my prescription of prednisone and it was for 20mg, he wanted to do 40mg, but we started at 20mg for three months. Then i had a long stretch of a maintenance dose of 5mgs, but i also had a sitting job at the window with my own area for a few years. I had PM rather mildly for awhile. and the vision returned byitself in 1986. hugs Karen
