Posted by ralphb ® , 2001/05/11, 13:12:07   Archive
A recent study showed that the drug combination of Methotrexate and Leflunomide together was more effective as a DMARD (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug) than Methotrexate taken alone. The abstract of the study is here:

This study was with Rheumatoid Arthritis patients, but that's how a lot of Myositis treatments get started.

Larger Dose MTX Pills Approved by the FDA

Posted by ralphb ® , 2001/05/11, 12:55:53   Archive
For those taking Methotrexate in oral tablet form, the FDA recently approved higher dose tablets of MTX. Until the approval date, 21 March 2001, MTX pills were only available in 2.5mg doses, requiring up to 10 be taken at one time. Now, MTX tablets are available in 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg and 15mg sizes. The new dosing may make it more convenient to take oral MTX, especially in children or adults who have trouble swallowing pills.
