JimYour note reflects both similarities and differences between us. Inner peace..........something I have never wanted and I don't intend to start now. My preference is planning and a logical execution of that plan and learning....learning as a from of exploration.
Funerals in our family have always been more of a wake (no booze thought) a cremation and a while later the ashes are spread on the back 40. It doesn't take much planning for that. Financial planning is pretty well taken care of since most of my assets are in a family held corporation. The stock is set up with a trust, etc to avoid the Uncle Sam's tax men.
I am giving Social Security Disability a try. More of a warm up and plan trial for retirement in a year. Have you ever tried to cram a $100 thousand income into a $900 a month container? If they don't look at the corp to closely I may make it. Toward this end I got a print out of drug copays at the local pharmacy....$1989.13 that I paid for drugs last year. That is quite a record since I pay $20 for brand name drugs and $10 for generics...less if the drug costs less.
