Vic

I have not been on in a while compliments of a flare and doing a little to much.

For the flare I went from 15 to 60mg of prednisone for a week and tapered back to 17 over the following two weeks. Needless to say I am achy and the like from withdrawal but the flare is much much better....I can almost type again..... When it comes to calcium and D for prednisone 1000mg of calcium is good and 1500 or a little more is way better. Currently I use 1800 (3 tablets) a day and Boneva once a month. I started on fosamax after a bone density test that showed osteopenia. That was after being on 60mg daily for about two months following diagnosis. I should note I was using prednisone for almost 2 years before diagnosis. If you are on longer than a month it would pay to talk about oesteoprosis and the like. Maybe a close look at your family tree....di any ancestors have it? Also, a nice bowl of chocolate ice cream has calcium....my favorite supplement. There are NO calories ........................

Like Bill my liver numbers looked pretty grim for a while compliments of DM and have returned to high normal for what ever that is worth.

One parting comment. If you can sleep at night then try splitting your prednisone dose. Say 50/10....you get more bang for the mg. If you decide to do this be certain to talk with your doctor first. Do not just go from say 60 once to 50/10. This is the same as reducing by 10. I haven't done this at higher dosage levels in a long time but do it around 15 routinely. That is 13/2.5 has been my normal dose for half a dozen years now.

watching my carbs + calories
