Like you, my DM diagnosis came out of the blue as I have been healthy all my life and no one in my family has this. I was given 40mg of prednisone to start to also help combat a few other issues that popped up. But while using prednisone I lost most of my hair. It is finally back but near as thick as it was. Hopefully it will thicken up some. I am now down to 5mg of prednisone and taking 200mg of Imuran a day. Though my knees ache I am back to work and feeling pretty good. Hopefully as the weather warms my knees will get back to normal. My rheumatologist puts heavy emphasis on doing some exercise to build the strength back but overall she is very pleased with my progress. She hopes to get me off prednisone and hopefully just take imuran. Not sure how things will work but the less medication I have to take the happier I am.
