I developed a bad pneumonia last April that took me a month to go over. In June I saw a respiratory technologist who said I was fine but I too was having problems getting clogged up and I wasn't breathing as deeply as I thought I should especially at night. I would be waking up and making noise all through the night. Finally in October they found that I was paradoxically breathing and that my diaphragm was weak. I have been put on a bipap machine at night and this has made an unbelievable difference, especially to my fatigue. I suggest you get yourself checked out.Paradoxical breathing is easy to see if you know what you're looking for. Laying flat, normally when one inhales, the abdomen rises as the diaphragm pushes down upon it. If the diaphragm is not operating correctly, on inhalation the abdomen falls. During the day the skeletal muscles assist in inhaling but at night the diaphragm is the only show in town.
These respiratory issues have not been widely associated with IBM however my respiratory specialist said "you're not the first I've seen." Thanks, Bill.
