Louise, My husband received disability upon the first application. He and I and two others who know him had to do extensive telephone interviews and then he was required to see a state dr. who took one look at him and the IBM diagnosis and basically said, no problem. They talked about fishing the rest of the visit. Jim used to do many things, including paint houses. Climbing stairs, let alone ladders, became impossible. His last job was working with me at our consignment store but he fell there twice and also was not able to move about or lift things. He doesn't receive too much compensation due to his independent work history, but part of it covers his aarp insurance that he carries to supplement Medicare. We were surprised when he was automatically put into Medicare after two years on disability. It has been a great blessing and financial support that we appreciate, especially now without incomes. We eventually sold our business and I left my last job to take care of him full time as his decline seems to be more rapid than some. Best wishes to you. Diana in Laramie |
