Good afternoon. Getting off the scooter was fairly easy until about a month ago. The seat on the scooter was set up as high as it could be and i could push myself up with one hand on the armrest and one hand on the handle. I would park the scooter next to where I wanted to transfer... push myself up and swing onto either the toilet, the bed or the van six way seat. Going the other way I would raise the bed to be able to push myself up and swing into the scooter seat... The same for the toilet, I had an nelectric seat lift and raised myself up and then swing on to the scooter. the same in the van... I had a six way base installed and I woud back it up swing 90 degres and raise it to a height where it was easy to stand up and swing on to the scooter. Getting off a wheelchair is a little harder. At least for me. Since IBM is progressive what works today is at best temporary (Since the progression is different for everybody, for some it could be many years and for others a few months) If you have assistance a good stand up lift would make it easy. That is the way they do the transfer here in the nursing home. I was amased how well it works and how easy it is to use. It is also a very quick way to do a transfer. Eventually some lifting device has to be use. A transfer board is not advisable. IBM destroy the muscles in the arms and legs. there is nothing strong enough that can be used... the arms don't have the strenght to pull and the legs cannot be depended on... In whatever we do Safety first. Leo
