Hello. I am currently being tested for possible myositis by my doctor. My symptom specifically is that my lower/medial pectoral muscles are completely atropied. The upper portion and rest of my body is built up normally. I usually weight train 3 times per week, but cannot get my lower chest to fire or build up. I had an MRI of the bilateral pectorals which showed the muscles completely intact, but atrophied. I also had MRI's of the cervical spine and brain to rule out CNS tumors/cysts/etc. I recently had blood work done, which showed elevated CK levels and aldolase levels. I also had a positive ANA. My question is: If I do have myositis, could it be localized to affect a specific muscle, such as the lower pectoral muscles? The orthopedic surgeon explained to me that the nerve innervations for the upper and lower chest are separate. The doctor has ordered an EMG and possibly a muscle biopsy to determine if I truly have myositis. Has anyone had similar problems? I started to notice the atrophy and difficuly contracting the lower pectorals approximately 2 years ago. Thank you for your time.
