Hi Pam, I know exactly how you feel!!! I rarely post to this sight, I guess it's an admission that I really have IBM. I was diagnosed in March '06, even though I had symptoms for a few years before. I am 59 yrs. old. I went through all the testing, and even though my muscle biopsy was inconclusive, my Dr. felt pretty sure it was IBM. Having never heard if it, I didn't feel anything when I was diagnosed, until I started reading about it. Then I got depressed and didn't know how I was going to cope. Some days, most days, I still have that feeling. I, too, have a wonderful caring family and also have support from co-workers and friends. My husband is truly my right hand, and left hand, and feet, if you know what I mean.
My left hand is weakest. I cannot close my car door, open the fridge, scratch my face, or most anything that needs strength. My walking is like a drunk, I use a cane when I go out of the house. In the house, I don't use it but I don't wear shoes in the house. I feel I walk better without. Life has changed, because I can't do the things I used to do. I was always very active, doing a lot of volunteer work, also at Church. I can't go to anyone's home because of the steps. We moved to a one story home, and what a blessing that has been.
I have offered to be involved in a clinical trial, and am very interested in learning about the lithium chloride.
I try to stay very positive, and I'm told by a lot of people that I do have a good attitude. But I have a lot of bad days, too, I just don't show them to many people.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I'll be more than glad to help you in any way I can!
Diane
