I think it is difficult to even decide exactly when IBM symptoms began to become obvious. Many odd things happened that I thought were just part of getting older. However, on thinking about the swallowing problem I found swallowing very difficult some fifteen years ago but didn't get medical advice until about five years later - so it was fairly early on. Then it was thought to be due to a muscle being damaged by reflux. The muscle was dissected and for a short time things were better. I am to have another scan as soon as I get around to asking the GP for a referral - have postponed this visit because of interstate visitors being with me. Go to Dagmar Slaven's web site where you will find a lot of helpful advice on all aspects of IBM. Take care. Fay Hobart
