Re: hereditary?

The doctors tell me that my IBM is definitely hereditary. And I can tell you that I most certainly have the same thing that my mom had. We are not of middle eastern or southern European descent, either, we are pure English and Welsh. We have no other family members who may have had the disease. My maternal grandfather died when he was only fifty-five, so we don't know if he may have carried the gene, but my grandmother did not - she was climbing ladders at eighty-three.

One of the things I understand about hIBM, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that it rarely shows up in young people, but does seem to show up earlier with each generation.
