Thanks Bill. I started the lithium today and I am starting low at 150mg twice a day. I asked for a lower starting dose. The study material says 300mg twice a day, but lithium actually goes by blood levels, that is more in keeping with what dose will be required. Since I am sensitive to medication, and "older adults" need less to get the required blood levels, I asked to be started lower, and in two weeks they will check our blood levels and go from there. Lithium can have side effect/toxic effects at slightly above the desired blood level, and since "everyone is different" there is no "right" blood level. For a person with a bipolar disorder, there is a range that is considered therapeutic. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for the encouragement. Betsy IBM
