Bridget update

This relates to Bridget's current situation. Looking back in time, Bridget has had episodes of vomiting since December. They were written off to viruses, food issues. (no one else EVER caught what she had though). Then we thought it could be from the pain medication. Finally it was happening more often, once a week, then 2X etc. For the last 2-3 weeks, she vomits EVERY DAY in the morning. Sometimes starts at 2-3am, usually starts about 6am. Bile for the most part. Sometimes 2-3X, and then she is ok for the day. Other times she feels awful the rest of the day. Because of this, she has missed ALOT of school. She may have to return to home instruction. Can you imagine going to bed, KNOWING you will wake up throwing up........ each night. I called CHoP often, and she was in the ER a total of 3X for this in February and March.

We went to Philadelphia (Ronald McDonald House) last night, Bridget had an Endoscopy scheduled for this morning. Because of all her complications, they put her under general anesthesia, in the operating room. Last weeks upper GI study was not conclusive. So, she had the test today...... they did not find anything definite. We almost WANTED them to find something. When I spoke to one of the doctors later, she said they DID see more bile in the stomach and upper intestine than they expected. So, they took some to do a culture. It is possible she has an infection of some kind. This would explain both the (new symptom for the last week)diaherra and the vomiting. They also did some biopsies. In the meantime , they will treat for Gastroparesis. (This is also called delayed, late or disordered gastric emptying, and it is a gastrointestinal disorder caused by delayed digestion and movement of food from the stomach to the small bowel.) BUT, they wrote RX for an antibiotic erthomyacin, and the pharmacy would not fill it. It conflicts with several of her other medicines, esp the Coumadin (blood thinner). ARGGHH. They knew all her meds. (this drug makes the stomach contract, it is not being used as an antibiotic per se)

Right now, I am frustrated. She is still really sick. There are multiple specialists involved. I need them to work together. I will be back on the phone tomorrow. The cause of all this could be her medications, could be her disease, who the heck knows. They will wait for the tests to come back, see if this new medication works, before ordering new tests. I asked about the gall bladder for example.

I am losing my MIND. I feel so bad about all this. Enough already. At least there is no school tomorrow, or next week. She went to bed tonight and said she is sure she will be sick in the morning, she can feel it.
