Hi Jeanette,

My son has a port-a-cath also, and it was rather painful for his first few pokes, because the surgery to put in the port had been so recent. He has now had it for over 3 years, and it is the ONLY way he will accept a needle. I don't have a lot of solutions on how to ease her fear of needles because I tried everything with Parker. It was strange because he was fine with needles when he first started getting MTX injections over 5 years ago...but now he drinks the MTX or gets it pushed into the port because he is so scared of shots in the arm.

I think over time, when Ciara realizes that the port is usually accessed on the first attempt, that she will become more comfortable with the needles. Sorry I don't have a lot of advice, but I can really empathize with you and how difficult the situation is. Hopefully, you will get some good suggestions from other posters.

Hang in there!
