Therapy will help a lot but after more than 4 months of formal therapy and 2 years on my own I still have muscle weakness and even more fatigue. Don't get me wrong, everything has improved and I am enjoying life again but I am not in the same physical condition I ws 3 years ago and might never be. Any of our cases can go into remission...no symptoms and no meds but keep in mind that pm can destroy muscle cells and those cannot come back. You can only work with those that are still viable but just weakened. I feel after more than 2 years of therapy and working out on my own that I can improve more but it is a long and slow process measured in many years. Maybe it would be easier for a younger person or a patient who did not have an extreme case like mine. The only pains I have are muscle cramping particularly in my feet and muscles in my mid and lower back. They were really trashed and it seems like it is taking a long time to strengthen and stretch them again. I think there is some adhesion in my back as well. It is hard to stay the course and keep on a recovery program. The progress is so slow but there is no other way. It will get better if you remain active on a program but the hard part is to keep doing it. Bill Mixed connective tissue disease (lupus, polymyositis), Raynauds phenomenon. Meds: prednisone 5mg, imuran 50mg, maxide 37.5/25mg, Lotrel 40/5mg,aciphex 20mg, folic acid, potassium, multi vitamins. Maintain your optimism and you can overcome the odds.
