Greg is right about attitude. My advice to everyone is to believe you can get better....you don't have to know exactly how or when....but believe it will happen. The mind is an amazing thing and can influence us in a profoundly negative or positive way.

I describe that as optimism but my wife describes it as being stubborn and pig headed....she is glad I am.

Greg is also right about not relying on cpk or any other test numbers as the sole measure of your disease. CPK does measure muscle breakdown for sure but it does not measure the many other symptoms that pm or dm can cause. Trust your body...it will tell you when things are not right. Myositis can attack more than just your skeletal muscles and both pm and dm are complicated diseases that manifest differently in each individual.

Of course, don't confuse the symptoms you get from muscle and other damage with an active disease state. You can be weak and tired and in remission. Your muscles are weak and the only way those will improve is through physcial acitvity over a long period of time.

Bill Mixed connective tissue disease (lupus, polymyositis), Raynauds phenomenon. Meds: prednisone 5mg, imuran 50mg, maxide 37.5/25mg, Lotrel 40/5mg,aciphex 20mg, folic acid, potassium, multi vitamins. Maintain your optimism and you can overcome the odds.
