I had the same aprehensions and it was a year before taking a trip. Airline travel was exhausing but we got lucky at Ohare and flew into a relatively small and convenient airport. We took a second trip last fall and it went very well and did not need to back out of any planned activities. The first trip was 2 hours and the second was 4 hours. Worst part was negotiating the airport and waiting around. The first trip was over Thanksgiving and my biggest concern was being couped up in an airplane for hours. I have been on ground hold for as long as 10 hours and they would not let anyone get off the plane. Definitely a form of torture. Just don't expect to do as much. Use your judgement and plan your trip. Have a baleout plan if you get too tired. Is your hotel in a convenient location? What does the group plan to do? Bus travel is difficult because of the stairs and uncomfortable seats. Make sure you have a suitcase with wheels and don't overpack. If there is a lot of walking involved then take a cab or use a scooter if one is available for a museum tour, etc. Most websites will note if they are available and perhaps you can call ahead and reserve one. If you have pain meds make sure you have them with you. Maybe you should take them before getting on the bus. Hope you get to go but if you decide not to go this time, go the next time.
