Re: A little uneasy

For the last several years I have taken a bus trip to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville. It is around six hours including a break or two. Don't worry about being to pooped to pop. There are a whole bunch of people around who are more than willing to help and the worst thing that can happen is spending a day at the hotel "resting."

The first step is discussing all this with your doctor. He will have some thoughts on pain killers and how much of what to take to keep from having any problems. Needless to say take a list of medications and your doctors phone number...you probably already have that on speed dial.

Second is, as the others have said, rent a scooter. We have two of them and I wouldn't try a trip with out one. Also almost all of them will fit into the buses baggage compartment. I would suggest you get it a couple of days before going in order to get familiar with it. A three wheel model would be best for inside. They are smaller and will fit into a hotel room better. There is nothing worse than tripping over one on a midnight bathroom break.

Third is to tell the travel director that you need a handicap room. There is a little more room to park the scooter and the door is wider.

Four...I generally have enough pills and junk to take so I skip the night light. I leave the bathroom light on and partially close the door. One final gadget is a door stop. They can be a real life saver....motel doors are spring loaded and difficult th hold open for you with out getting run over.
