Boy can I understand your feelings of terror. I do think the doctors at the U of Mich know what they are doing. On the other hand being on insulin does not completely eliminate prednisone usage. You have to be very careful about how many carbs you eat and probably will have to increase your insulin dose but..... I am type II diabetic and use 13 units of Lantus (a low dose) insulin. Also I don't consume much in the way of carbohydrates at any given meal.

I would talk to her doctor(s) and ask what is going on. I bet that there is another reason for not using prednisone.
