Hello DeAnna,
Can you lift your foot off the floor when you are sitting down ? Some of the foot drop problems are actually due to weakness in your hip girdle muscles. This is what causes the problems Phil is experiencing going over curbs and tripping over nothing. Please get another opinion from a neurologist. Ask your Rheumatologist how many myositis patients he has, or is currently, treating. The disease is sufficiently rare for him to know exactly how many. If he says four or five he's lying. Fire the bum and get yourself another doctor. Please start keeping a journal. Write down any questions you have and keep track of how you feel. You are also entitled to your test results and medical records. Insist that they be provided to you. I know it is difficult, but you must be in charge of your healthcare. That means demanding first class service. If a mechanic working on your car treated you the way most doctors did you'd go to another garage. Be polite but firm in demanding satifaction from your health care providers. I'm an electrician, not a physician, but from your description of the prednisone regimen he has you on he's reducing your dosage far too rapidly. I started off with 60mg./day and it took more than two years for me to get off prednisone altogether. Please consider using a cane. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much that can help and the security it gives you. Not only does it make walking easier but it really helps if you have to stand for any length of time. Kind Regards and Be Strong, Ed. |
